CARRIE'S FILING CABINET
This personal “filing cabinet” consists of practice tools that I have learned about through my first year of coursework in the MScOT program at Queen’s University, as well as through my Level 1 clinical placement.
My filing cabinet has 5 drawers, which hold models of practice (evidence-based assessments and interventions) specific to each determinant. The 5 determinants include: cognitive-neurological, psychological-emotional, environmental, sociocultural, and physical. I have included a description of each determinant and separate pages for the corresponding assessments and interventions.
Assessments are tools used by occupational therapists (OTs) to gather information about clients. They help to clarify information about the identity of occupational performance, engagement, and experience problems.
Interventions are strategies used by OTs to effect change. Choosing the right intervention is a complicated process. It involves client and OT collaboration, use of clinical judgment and supportive evidence from research.
